DAVID'S  CARPENTRY
Deck Repair II.
My customer needed to fix the deck landing.

One of the support posts for the decks staircase started sinking into the ground.
It was three inches out of level.
I removed the 6"x6" support post and raised the landing with a hydraulic jack until it was level.  I installed a temporary steel support post and started digging a 42" deep hole for the footing.
As I was digging the hole I was surprised to find a cement footing already there.  It was in the wrong place and the deck builders set the 6x6 support post on the bare ground next to it, which is why it sunk so badly.
I re-installed the post with a metal post mount set in the cement.
The finished product is very solid now, the post sitting on 42" footing attached to the landing with new 8" carraige bolts.
After the post was fixed I had to level out the stairs.  They were sitting on the bare ground, too.
I partially detached the stairs so I could jack them up level.  I installed 4" cement pads to support them.
