DAVID'S  CARPENTRY
Porch Repair.
This house is 120 years old.  The front porch has some rotted wood that has to be replaced and some peeling paint that has to be redone.

All the black trim pieces on the posts are rotted and falling off.  There is also some peeling paint on the front steps.
I custom made new trim pieces out of cedar.  I cut the stock to the proper size.  It took two passes through the router to achieve the desired profile.
Here they are installed.  I primed the front and back sides of the trim.  Painted and caulked all the gaps to keep the rainwater from getting behind them.
I scraped all the peeling paint from the stairs.  Primed with Benjamin Moore exterior primer, and painted.
In previous years I replaced many of the deck boards and all the spindles, handrails and bottom rails..
I replaced all the curved railings, too.  I made them in my shop.
I designed the bottom rail so that rainwater and snow passes right through.   They are also slightly beveled  for runoff.  The old bottom rail was a solid 2x4.  The rain and snow couldn't drain off and caused all the spindles to rot at the bottom.
